From Doomscrolling To Doing: Practical Ways To Reclaim Your Day

Hey Girl Gang - the world’s been heavy lately, and unfortunately, that weight lives right in our pockets. We decided to dedicate this episode to all of us out there who are feeling overwhelmed and need a way to take back our power by reclaiming our time, space, and hobbies.

In this episode, we’re talking about a "braver" way to live: going analog. This isn't about being a tech-hating hermit; it’s just a vibe check for your brain. If you find yourself scrolling before you’ve even rubbed the sleep out of your eyes, you’re not alone—and you’re definitely not stuck. Haven’t listened yet? Check it out now!

1. Add Friction (Not Guilt)

The goal is to make scrolling a little more annoying so your brain has time to catch up.

  • Hide the icons: Move social apps off your home screen or delete them and use your browser. That extra click is a lifesaver.

  • Silence the noise: Turn off breaking news alerts. Trust me, if it’s that big, you’ll hear about it.

  • The "Scroll Sandwich": Do one productive thing, scroll for five minutes, then do another productive thing.

  • Say it out loud: Literally tell yourself, “I am opening TikTok because I’m bored and anxious.” Naming it makes you feel slightly ridiculous, which helps you stop.

2. Clean Up Your Feed

If an account makes you feel like garbage—whether it’s through envy, anger, or just pure doom—mute or unfollow.

  • The Walled Garden: Follow people who actually teach you stuff or make you laugh.

  • Reset the Algorithm: If your Explore page is a mess, spend a few minutes aggressively liking things you actually enjoy (cats, woodworking, whatever) to train the bot to be nicer to you.

  • Work vs. Life: If you have to use social media for work, log in through a business manager page so you don't get sucked into your personal feed.

3. The "What If" Hobbies

If you got back two hours a day from your phone, what would you actually do? We’re talking real-world stuff:

  • Messing around on a piano or guitar.

  • Alcohol markers (they’re oddly satisfying).

  • Murder-logic puzzles or LEGOs.

  • Just... people-watching. Being bored is actually a skill!

The 7-Day Digital Reset

If you’re feeling bold, try this one-week experiment to get your brain back:

Day Task:

Day 1 Audit your notifications. If it’s not from a human, kill it.

Day 2 Go Grayscale. Making your phone black and white makes it boring.

Day 3 No phones in the bedroom. Buy a cheap alarm clock.

Day 4 Delete your top 3 time-wasting apps (just for the week!).

Day 5 Single-tasking. No "second screening" while watching TV.

Day 6 Do something physical for 2 hours. No tech allowed.

Day 7 Prune your "Following" list, then reinstall only what you need.

It’s a Tool, Not a Slot Machine

Look, phones are great for music, audiobooks, and GPS. You don't have to throw yours in a lake. The goal is to make "real life" your default setting again. If you slip up and spend three hours looking at sourdough starters? No big deal. Just reset and try again tomorrow. Your attention is a resource—start spending it on stuff that actually makes you happy.

So until next time - stay bold, stay empowered…
